  • The three-year program will be operational at two locations in the state and extended to six other locations in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar

CNH Industrial, a global leader in agricultural and construction equipment, has launched its program ‘Sustainable Environment Solution’, aimed at preventing the burning of crop residues and promoting environmental conservation. The initiative is focused on leveraging crop stubble management techniques to find sustainable alternatives including ex-situ management and raise awareness about the detrimental effects of crop residue burning.

With Indian Society for Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP) as the implementing agency, the company is targeting eight locations, starting with Chhattisgarh, over the course of this three-year initiative. It will be gradually extended to other locations based in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar.

"At CNH Industrial we are firmly committed to sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation, and this initiative is the latest to drive positive sustainable change in the farming industry," said Narinder Mittal, Country Manager and Managing Director – Agriculture Business (India and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), CNH Industrial. "By implementing the Sustainable Environment Solution program, we aim to mitigate the adverse effect of crop residue burning while promoting the efficient utilization of agricultural by-products. This program aligns with our vision of creating a more environmentally friendly and healthier future for farming communities."

Furthermore, the project will train farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to productively utilize the bales produced in the process such as for cattle feed, compost manure, fuel for biomass energy, and packing materials. This will not only help address the pressing issue of crop residue burning but also support farmers to develop as social entrepreneurs. With economic incentives, such as carbon credits and the utilization of by-products, the program is beneficial for both the environment and agricultural communities.

CNH Industrial’s longstanding Straw Management CSR project has been run in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Universities & Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The program has been successfully running for five years in Punjab’s Kallar Majri village and was recognized by India’s Prime Minister for setting a benchmark of zero burning in its first year of implementation.

CNH Industrial India serves the country through its Case IH, New Holland Agriculture and CASE Construction Equipment brands. The company has been delivering on the promise to provide world class products of engineering excellence, with ‘Made in India’ manufacturing operations for over 25 years.
